Wicked Wednesday: Luscious Strawberries

Strawberries! The stores are stocking up. It’s strawberry season and I’m in heaven. Plump, sweet, delicious, juicy, ooooh, the words don’t stop when it comes to describing fresh strawberries. What words would  you use? Add some in the comments.

Today I had a strawberry mint soda. Yum. I also love strawberry margaritas and will have to make one of those soon. I even came across a recipe for a strawberry mojito. Can’t wait to try that recipe and one of these days I’ll share the recipe with you. Once the summer hits, a mojito is an awesome way to end the day and with a strawberry-flavor, it just doesn’t get better than that.

It isn’t only drinks. Desserts are an ideal place to get your strawberry fix. Whether you eat your strawberries plain or sprinkle them with sugar, strawberries are a perfect end to any meal.

So, with the weather warming up and spring on its way, how about cooling down with a dish of homemade strawberry sherbet? Check out my recipe below:

Strawberry Sherbet a la Zia

  • 4 qts. fresh strawberries sliced
  • 4 cups of sugar
  • 2 2/3 cups of milk
  • 2/3 cup of orange juice
  • 1/8 tsp of ground cinnamon

In a bowl mix the strawberries with the sugar and let stand for one and a half hours. Divide the mixture into several batches and place in the blender. Add in the milk, orange juice and cinnamon and blend well. At this point, if you have an ice cream freezer, pour the mixture into the ice cream cylinder and follow the directions for the machine. No ice cream freezer? No problem. Use an ice cream tray with the tray dividers removed. Pour the mixture into the trays and freeze for 3 hours. Stir it a few times and serve.

Share that sherbet with someone special and I bet you’ll be making more very soon!
